Nice Girls DO Speak Up!

From a very young age, I was always taught to be nice and treat all people with respect. My parents taught this to all of us and I have seen it being modeled so much that it’s pretty much a habit of mine at this point.

My mom has always said it doesn’t matter if someone is the President or the janitor, we should treat everyone the same, because she believes that today’s janitor could be tomorrow’s President.

Also, I was taught someone could be having a really bad day and just one encounter could make them feel a whole lot better…or a whole lot worse. When you are nice to people, you would hope people would be nice to you in return…but that’s not always the case. I’ve learned there are some people who are just not happy with themselves or maybe they just never learned the importance of being nice to other people.

I think it all comes down to knowing your self worth. When you know your worth, you don’t feel the need to be mean to other people because people who have integrity don’t need to make anyone else feel bad in order to make themselves feel better.

But knowing your worth also means you don’t tolerate people being mean to you. People tend to treat you the way you allow them to treat you, so if someone is being mean to you or trying to make you feel bad about yourself, make sure to speak up…and you do NOT have to be nice about it! Your feelings are valid…and your voice matters!

People who “set fires” don’t get to decide how you put them out so don’t let anyone make you feel bad for speaking up for or defending yourself.

Sorry, but I’m not sorry…
